Matriarch with more than just Queen's birthday in common DORIS Kot has more in common with her Majesty than most people realise. Not only do they share exactly the same birthday, but both have four children who are almost the same age - and both are Queens in their own special way. Mrs Kot, who was born in Castleford but now lives in Oulton, is the matriarch of a large family, including daughters Stefaney and Beverley, sons Stephen and Nigel, five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, a foster grandchild and great grandchild. Granddaughter Rebecca even shares her birthday with the Queen's daughter Princess Anne - but Mrs Kot, formerly Miss Debney, is glad the similarities end there. "When I was little and I didn't get my own way, I thought my Mum must have changed babies!" she said. "If there was something I wanted in the shop and I couldn't have it, I might have thought, 'if I was the Queen, I could have had that'. "But I wouldn't want to change places with her - the royals have no privacy. I've had a good life and I know there's still a lot of good times to come for me." Mrs Kot is a great admirer of the monarchy and remembers seeing Princess Mary, George V's wife, on a visit to Leeds in the early 1930s. Respect She brought up her children to have respect for the royal family, but for her daughters, there's only one Queen. "Mum's the head of the family and we go to her for advice," said eldest daughter Stefaney. "She's very diplomatic. She's older so she's much wiser and she's a good person to talk things through with." Mrs Kot, who used to work in the office at Yorkshire Imperial Metals in Stourton, celebrated her 80th birthday with a family party at a Chinese restaurant last weekend. "I'm a royalist and for me, the Queen can't do any wrong," she added. "No matter what her duties are her family will be first - she's first and foremost a family lady. "She's been absolutely marvellous, she's had to bring her family up and be a Queen - she's had two jobs. The royal family are just like us really, they're just a family that happened to be born royal."
